Jeanne and David’s work reflects the
influence of their summer studies at Pond Farm School in Guerneville,
CA with Marguerite Wildenhain, a master potter from the Bauhaus
School of Design. While the guiding principle of form following
function continues to shape their work, each has developed
a unique style reflecting their individual artistic perspectives.
Jeanne’s eyes are always open to the
beauty beyond her front door: lazy day sailboats skimming
Door County waters, blossom-laden cherry and apple orchards,
the blue waters of Green Bay framed by distant tree and cliff-lined
shores. Travels to Mexico, France, London, Scandinavia and
the U.S. southwest have opened her eyes to the colors and
styles of other cultures. And last, but far from least, her
love of children—her own and others—has influenced
her greatly.

An early interest in working with his hands
found David exploring woodcarving, but he eventually found
that working with clay expanded his creative opportunities.
David’s abstract designs spring organically from each
piece’s function. His hand-thrown and painted pieces
are embellished with intricate patterns and natural objects
and enhanced by subtle wood-ash or glossy glazes. His recent
sculptural pieces evidence the continuing evolution of his
work.

A visit to the Clay Bay Pottery showroom
will find lady vases, lamps, coffee mugs, bowls, platters
and more ready for purchase. Customers can place special orders
for tiles for cabinet tops, wine racks, kitchen or bathroom
back splashes, or even home murals, along with pottery dinner
services or wine goblets. Beautiful but functional, each piece
is designed to be used and enjoyed as well as displayed.
